The present one is a work of Jos\u00e9 de Porres and Juan Pascual, inaugurated in 1680. (Gard\u00edn, Asturias, Valls, &amp; Rodr\u00edguez Garc\u00eda, 2017).<\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><strong>Architecture: <\/strong>Baroque style, designed with 5 naves, 18 side chapels all with domes, columns decorated with stucco. The fa\u00e7ade has curved ornaments, with 15 images without counting the cherubs at the entrance. (Gard\u00edn, Asturias, Valls, &amp; Rodr\u00edguez Garc\u00eda, 2017).<\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><strong>Curious facts  <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It was considered the most beautiful and luxurious cathedral in Central America.<\/p>\n<p>It preserves images of great historical and religious value such as the Se\u00f1or Sepultado de San Jos\u00e9 and Nuestra Se\u00f1ora del Socorro.<\/p>\n<p>In one of its crypts are the tombs of illustrious characters of the Conquest of Guatemala, among them: Bishop Francisco Marroqu\u00edn, Pedro de Alvarado and Bernal D\u00edaz del Castillo.<\/p>\n<p>It contains a set of tunnels and vaults whose usefulness is unknown. (Guatemalan, 2017)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Function: <\/strong>The ruins of the former Cathedral function as a tourist site. The present church functions as a parish and religious services are held there.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hours and admission fee<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Ruins: <\/strong>from 9:00 to 17: hours.
