Santa Clara Convent and Church

Creation of the monastery: In 1693, a license is granted to found the monastery. In 1699, six nuns arrived from Mexico and founded the convent. In 1700 the facilities were inaugurated. (Santa Clara Convent Ruins, La Antigua Guatemala | Sacatepéquez, 2017)

Who created it: Diego de Porres could have been the architect, since he is credited with the elaboration of the School of Christ and both this and the convent of Santa Clara have the technique of stone cladding.

Who or what is represented there: It was a complex destined to the clergy, it was in charge of the Clarisas nuns from Puebla, Mexico.

Where: 2da avenida Sur y 6 calle Oriente Antigua Guatemala, Sacatepéquez

Hours and entrance: Monday to Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
