Palace of the Captains General

When it was created

In 1558 the construction of the royal palace began, its main restorations have been those of 1858 mayor of Sacatepéquez Ignacio Irigoyen, 1888 colonel José Pacheco (Méndez, 1991).

What is represented there

The Palace of the Captains owes its name to its function as a residence for the governors of the Spanish kingdom during colonial times.

Curious facts

Inside the palace there are multiple vaulted dungeons and dungeons before dungeons, rooms for the warden, weapons cellar. Inside there are several museums and libraries: Museo de Armas, Museo de Arte Colonial, Museo del Libro Antiguo, Casa del Museo, Biblioteca Pública and the Biblioteca del Banco de Guatemala; there are also guided tours for foreigners, nationals and educational institutions.
