Construction: The convent compound is built in 1708. The church in 1715 by José de Porres and Diego de Porres. (Pardo, Zamora Castellanos, & Lujan Muñoz, 1969)
Architecture
Before the earthquakes, the church had three bodies: the first one was composed of three naves of five complete bays plus a kind of apse that corresponds to the presbytery. The second, by an octagonal window with its respective image. The third is a finial and a central niche flanked by two columns and baroque mixtilinear finials. (Mendoza Zepeda, 1986)
Curious facts
After the earthquakes the building was abandoned, but was later used as a soap factory and sports complex.
From the ruins of the Convent and the Church, material was extracted for the construction of other buildings.
Function
At present, the entire complex is in ruins and functions as a tourist attraction.
