San Bartolomé Becerra

Foundation: According to Fuentes y Guzmán in his Recordación Florida was founded by Captain Bartolomé Becerra in the XVI century, in fact in 1575. (Ortiz Herrera, 2010)

Church: The Temple in honor of San Bartolomé houses the image of Jesus Nazareno de la Caída, which is why it is one of the most visited in La Antigua Guatemala, especially during Lent and Holy Week. (Ortiz Herrera, 2010)

Mass schedule: Sundays from 7:30 a.m. onwards.

Patron saint’s day: August 24 in honor of St. Bartholomew the Apostle.

Curious facts: The image of Jesús Nazareno de la Caída was sculpted in the 17th century by the first baroque artist, sculptor Pedro de Mendoza.

Handicrafts: white pine, cedar and mahogany furniture. Gold and silver work is also done with gold and silver making chains, rings, bracelets, bracelets and charms.
